If you’re new to this newsletter, here’s what happens over here in our little Fierce corner of the universe. I share thoughts, musings, stories and studies to inspire our minds and remind our spirits that there are many ways to find inner strength when we need it. If you’re not already, please subscribe. I’d really appreciate it!
Hi! I feel like it’s been forever since we last chatted! And yet, it’s been a mere hot minute (real time, 2 weeks, which is the usual cadence that I share newsletters. …I think these last long days of summer must be stretching time).
After spending so much attention in the last two newsletters on the topic of sad songs—and the amazing songwriters who turn our idiosyncratic pain into relatable beauty—I made a playlist to house those songs and many more. Why? I don’t know… turning over the lyrics that I was highlighting, I kept replaying these creative works and wanted to listen again and again, partially for research, but also just to be lulled by the beauty that lies within the spectrum of the human experience of hurt. The list isn’t a perfect playlist, but it’s a good snapshot of some of some amazing creative works; ex. Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For was narrowly cut from my newsletter deep dive but is here along with some Brandi Carlile, Dire Straits, Dolly Parton and many more. Enjoy!
And just so you don’t think that I’m over here wallowing all the time(!), I’m also sharing a polar opposite playlist, one I made about a decade ago after my MS diagnosis. Because, what gets us through hard times? Music.
Cue my High Vibe Playlist! Like I said, these lists aren’t necessarily perfect in the flow and placement of all the songs. But. They’re collections of some damn good songs, no matter what your mood.
And until next time,
xx M
