If you’re new to this newsletter, here’s what happens over here in our little fierce corner of the universe. I share thoughts, musings, stories and studies to inspire our minds and remind our spirits that there are many ways to find inner strength when we need it. If haven’t already, please subscribe. I’d really appreciate it!
Did you know that I’m also a motivational public speaker? If your company needs a boost of inspiration to get through the end of the year, read more at the bottom of this newsletter.
Topic du jour
Resilience you say? Finding a way through hard times? Funny, I write a newsletter about that exact topic.
(Of course you know that, because I’m right here in your inbox talking to you about it every other week.)
But as feelings swirl, I remind myself that the subject matter that I find most fascinating in the entire world—resilience and how we get through tough times—is the prescient1 topic.
Now, you don’t need me to tell you that there are a lot of emotions floating around.
The nation is divided—and regardless of who you voted for and what issues mattered most to you—we know that nothing feels easy or comfortable, even within our own small communities. And as the saying goes, a nation divided cannot stand.
My hope is that we start to find a way forward through empathy, compassion and vulnerability. All those things that make us more resilient individuals could make us more resilient as a country.
I hope our communities rebuild stronger through love, and that the negative bias of social media loses its hold on our reactiveness. Let’s be stronger than the algorithm.
And when in doubt, I hope we can lean into learning more about each other instead of reveling in assumptions and generalizations.
We’re all humans (yes, even the politicians) living in the same country, so maybe we can start from a place of unity and see what we can accomplish from there.
My hope is that we start to find a way forward through empathy, compassion and vulnerability. All those things that make us more resilient individuals could make us more resilient as a country.
The liberation of right now
Here’s the beauty of right now—if the world feels like it’s falling apart just remember: no one cares if you fail.
That means, go for it.
Take the chance.
Do the thing.
Put yourself out there.
Don’t hold back.
Everything could crumble tomorrow, so what are you doing with your life right now?
xx
Postscript
If you need a companion for some strong feelings, I’ll remind you about the Sad Songs posts I wrote this summer. They were about how, in dark times, it feels like sad songs can save our soul. Truly. Because sometimes we need our pain named (and set to a melody).
Links to those posts are right here:
For some moody grooves, here’s a link to the Sad Songs playlist I made in Spotify. Though don’t despair completely, I also have a high-vibe playlist to pick us up and get us going again.
I originally created this high-vibe, “Thrive with MS” playlist in 2014 after my MS diagnosis because I needed upbeat, empowering tunes. So, just if—for any reason—you’re looking for empowerment and something uplifting this week, here you go :)
Now, go out and make a dream happen.
Until next time,
xx M
Let me help your team, company or community
We’re coming to the part of the year when people want to tune out. And given the political division, it’s probably already happening. Add to that a looming recession and a workforce who is most certainly working more than their role because companies are cutting costs but demanding more output. I’ve spoken at corporations, agencies, health groups, large public events, intimate wellness retreats and at major university classes, both in person and via zoom, and I want to help your people.
The Energizer Bunny of Resilience
I would love to help your people feel better, which also helps them perform better, which makes everything work better at work.

This month’s Fierce Resilience Zoom is next week!
Come join us on Tuesday at 8e/7c/5p to connect with a few chill souls.
It will be a small group. It might even be just me and my mom. (Which, BTW, would be cool.) So come, join us (and by us, I mean me and my mom) Tuesday night for 30 minutes of good vibes.
The Zoom link will go out on Tuesday morning. This is usually a benefit for paying subscribers, but I’m opening it up to anyone, because resilience is for everyone.
Prescient—such a cool word that I’ve always wanted to use in a sentence. See? Dreams do come true!
